Villa Vetteglia is located in the northern part of Tuscany, near Lucca, Pisa and Florence. The distance from the Netherlands is approximately 1350 km or a 1.5 hour flight to Pisa or Florence. The small village of Vetteglia belongs to the Lima valley and is an idyllic place. From the house you can see several mountain villages and no less than 6 church towers.
Montefegatesi is a village nearby and is spectacularly set in the mountains. At the highest point is a large statue of the poet/writer Dante. You can go here quite easily for a beautiful view.
Bagni di Lucca and Fornoli (about 15 minutes drive) both have a supermarket and a number of fine restaurants. You can also come here to pick up delicious pizza. On the way from Lucca to the house you will find a large Esselunga supermarket. This has a large selection of vegetables, fruit, meat and fish and also an excellent wine department.
For culture you can go to Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Barga and Siena. Each of these beautiful Italian cities has its own charm, we can recommend them all. Lucca is the closest to the house and also one of the most beautiful places with the old wall around the city. A tip is to rent bicycles and cycle over the wall.
If you like (mountain) hiking, there are plenty of options. There are old paths everywhere that were used in the past and are now perfect for walking tours. The mountain behind the house (Prato Fiorito) is fairly easy to climb and gives a view of all the mountains around from 1300 meters and the sea is often also visible.
For sporty guests, it is only a 15-minute drive away to go ziplining, rent a sup board or go rafting. This is done on the Lima River from a narrow canyon. The water is beautifully blue. You can also swim in the river. Val di Lima offroad offers quad tours through the area. Guided horseback riding tours through the mountains are also available, a unique way to explore the area.
